What the university aims to do:

To keep moving forward
To be fully committed to the students
To have a high job placement rate

It is a great pleasure to meet you.

This is Kenichi Sakai, President of Tokyo Keizai University.

I would like to give you a brief introduction to Tokyo Keizai University. The university, which started as Okura Commerce School in 1900, celebrates the 144th anniversary of its foundation in 2014. Our founding spirit is "SHIN ISSOU (進一層)," meaning "Forward Forever."

Our university has four faculties, Economics, Business Administration, Communication Studies and Contemporary Law, and graduate programs for each of the four faculties. The students are expected, throughout their entire academic years, not only to attain the knowledge of those specialized fields but also to broaden their perspectives on things and enrich their "general" knowledge through the liberal arts courses we offer. This is because we believe both are essential for them to play an active role in this society. There is also a special program called an "Advanced Program" where we select some enthusiastic and motivated students and provide them with courses to pave the way for them to work as a pro, such as a certified public accountant and a processional PR planner, after graduation.

The university also has earned a reputation for its dedicated staff members who give strong support for the students to start job-hunting and land a job. In addition, we have a course named "Career Support Course," in which the students can take the same classes at our campus as the ones offered in some well-established vocational schools.

I started posting my blogs, titled "SHIN ISSOU DAYORI (進一層便り)," on the webpage of the university in April, 2014. I give comments there on a wide variety of sports- and educational- activities taking place on and off campus. I highly expect this gives as many people as possible a chance to know more about our university.

Kenichi Sakai
President, Tokyo Keizai University
