On October 7, 2020, 11 Tokyo Keizai University students participated in a language exchange with more than 15 students from University of Colorado Boulder from 8AM-9AM via ZOOM. This is the first of three language exchanges that TKU students can join with CU Boulder students this year.
Using ZOOM’s Breakout Rooms, TKU students and CU Boulder students were split into small groups where they talked in English about fall traditions and ways of staying in contact with friends during the pandemic for 30 minutes, then about weekend activities in Japanese for the remaining 30 minutes. Even though students can't study abroad now, this language exchange was a great opportunity for students to meet and talk with other university students abroad in both English and Japanese.
10月7日（水）8:00～にコロラド大学ボルダー校（以下、コロラド大学）の学生と本学学生11名が、web会議ツール『zoom』を使い「日本語」と「英語」の語学交流を行いました。これは、本学協定校でもあるコロラド大学から誘いを受け、実現したものです。月1度のペースで行い、次回は11月4日（水）と12月2日（水）を予定しています。実施当時はコロラド州でサマータイム導入中であったため、日本では朝8:00にアクセスすることとなりましたが（現地は17:00）、申し込んだ学生のほぼ全員が時間通りにチェックインし、前半30分は英語のみ、後半30分は日本語のみという交流を楽しみました。
言語学専門の小田登志子全学共通教育センター准教授は、「さすがにアメリカの学生は、限られた言語力を駆使してコミュニケーションをとる術を自然と身につけていますね。」とコメント。コロラド大学 Asian Language and Civilizationのシブリ久子氏は、「小さい頃からいかに自分の意見を伝えるか」という教育を受けており、その点が反映されているのではと話されていました。
